FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – The Forestiere Underground Gardens celebrated what would have been Baldassare Forestiere’s 147th birthday by treating guests to free ice cream, while reminding them of Forestiere’s legacy in Fresno.
Shera Franzman with the Forestiere Gardens says the Sicilian immigrant, Forestiere, first moved to the United States in the early 1900s. When he arrived in Fresno, Forestiere planned to grow citrus; however, the hard pan soil of the land he’d bought would not bear fruit.
And so, Forestiere made use of the land a different way…
