Top 6 neighborhood bar spots in Torresdale

Torresdale sits at the far northeastern edge of Philadelphia, a neighborhood where people who grew up in Kensington and Juniata Park put down roots, and where the bar scene reflects that blue-collar, everybody-knows-your-name sensibility. You won’t find velvet ropes or $18 cocktails here. What you will find are cold taps, outdoor patios, game-day specials and bartenders who remember your order.

Here are six spots worth your time, each with its own reason to walk through the door.

Dagwood’s Pub

Pride and tradition drive this Linden Avenue institution at 4625 Linden Ave. Owner Ed Grzeskiewicz, a 1987 North Catholic graduate, has run Dagwood’s since his graduation year, and the bar remains a gathering place for Falcons alumni, according to a Philadelphia Neighborhoods profile. “We have a lot of alumni that come in here, and we have a lot of Falcons pride,” Grzeskiewicz said. Even though North Catholic closed in 2010, the school’s spirit is alive on these walls, making Dagwood’s a living piece of neighborhood history.

Crafty’s Taproom

Craft beer is the draw at 3332 Grant Ave., inside the Grant and Academy Shopping Center. Crafty’s pours more than 20 craft beers on tap and another dozen or more in bottles, with a focus on local breweries, bartender Mike Nolde told Philadelphia Neighborhoods. “We really try to push the craft selection,” Nolde said. Between sips of an IPA or an Allagash, you can kill time with bubble hockey or the oversized Jenga and Connect 4 sets the bar keeps on hand.

Three Monkeys Cafe

Situated across the street from the Torresdale Regional Rail station, Three Monkeys is one of the most convenient after-work stops in the neighborhood. The real selling point is the Monkey Court, an outdoor patio area decorated with signs, artificial bamboo and even a monkey statue, all in a forest theme that regulars say sets it apart from any other patio in the area. “The Monkey Cove is easily the coolest outdoor area in a restaurant I’ve ever seen,” Holy Family University student Gabby Pristera told Philadelphia Neighborhoods. If you want a drink and a meal outdoors without leaving the neighborhood, this is where to go.

Maggie’s Waterfront Cafe

Few bars in Northeast Philadelphia can match the setting at 9242 N. Delaware Ave. Maggie’s, in business since 2008, offers a second-floor river deck overlooking the Delaware, 60 beers on tap and a menu that includes its famous seasoned fries and cheesesteak spring rolls, according to Philadelphia Neighborhoods. Manager Natalie Pawlus described the place as equal parts bar and family restaurant, with lunch specials Monday through Friday and live entertainment throughout the week. It regularly appears near the top of local bar roundups on Yelp.

Brick House Bar & Grill

Right next door to Crafty’s in the Grant and Academy Shopping Center, Brick House is the spot for catching Phillies, Flyers and Eagles games with drink and food specials that keep the tab reasonable. “Our sports specials really make the Brick House a great place to indulge while you catch the game for a reasonable price,” manager and owner Steve Clark told Philadelphia Neighborhoods. Weekends bring DJs, karaoke and live bands, so the energy shifts from game-day crowd to nightlife crowd once the final whistle blows.

Jimmy’s Timeout Sports Pub

Jimmy’s Timeout appears consistently in Yelp’s listings for top bars near Torresdale and top nightlife spots in the area, according to multiple 2026 Yelp roundups. It is a straightforward neighborhood sports pub, the kind of place where the TVs are always tuned to the right game and the regulars have claimed their stools. If you are bar-hopping through Torresdale and want a no-frills sports bar experience, Jimmy’s belongs on the list…
