ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) – With rising temperatures across the Rochester area making for a scorching summer overall, many households are keeping their air conditioning systems running more consistently than past years. Experts say this is causing additional stress on the nation’s power grid, which could be problematic in the long run.
Professor in the Cornell Jeb Brooks School of Public Policy Rick Geddes explained in addition to increased air conditioner use, the rising demand for electricity across our society has also added stress to the grid.
“We’re in a situation where we’re maxing out the generating capacity for the grid in the State of New York,” Geddes said. “Everything is coming together to increase the demand on the grid.”…
