Nazareth Borough Council voted 6-3 on Monday, July 6, to amend the borough’s zoning ordinance, extending the General Commercial District along the east side of Main Street between Prospect and Park streets, a move that could pave the way for redevelopment of the long-vacant former Kraemer Textiles property.
The amendment generated much discussion as residents expressed concerns about traffic, parking and neighborhood safety, while council members weighed those concerns against the potential benefits of revitalizing one of the borough’s largest vacant industrial properties.
