HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — While scattered showers and storms are in the forecast Thursday, The Weather Authority will be monitoring a strong to severe storm threat Friday and Saturday.
A Weather Authority Impact Day has been issued for Friday because of the threat of strong to severe storms. A disturbance will track west to east through the area Friday afternoon, increasing our chance of damaging winds and hail. We will also be monitoring model trends for Saturday, as another impact day may be needed because of a severe weather threat.
Above is a look at the forecast, which shows one scenario of how storms could develop on Friday. After starting the day mostly dry, widely scattered showers and storms will begin firing midday through the evening.
Late Saturday into Sunday, a cold front will push through the region, supporting a greater chance for widespread rain and thunderstorms. We are continuing to monitor the model trends for the weekend, as we will likely see another threat for strong to severe storms, especially by the afternoon.
The Storm Prediction Center, as of early Thursday morning, has a portion of our area under a *MARGINAL RISK* (1/5) for severe storms on Friday. This is subject to change and expansion to include all of the Tennessee Valley later on. We are also highlighted under a marginal risk on Saturday.
