Mobile Co. Sheriff’s Office seeks federal grant for possible Prichard police takeover

MOBILE COUNTY, Ala. (NBC 15) — The Mobile County Sheriff’s Office is looking to apply for roughly $750,000 in federal grant funding as a contingency plan in case the City of Prichard shuts down its police department and county deputies have to take over law enforcement duties.

Chief Deputy Frank Cassidy told Mobile County Commissioners the sheriff’s office is seeking the Department of Justice grant because the application deadline is approaching near the end of July, even though no final decision has been made about the future of Prichard’s police department.
