Endangered butterflies reintroduced to Fort Custer Training Center

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (WOOD) — The Michigan Army National Guard has come up with a new way to utilize its expansive property at the Fort Custer Training Center. The training center is now also being used to help reintroduce an endangered butterfly back into the environment.

The Michigan Department of Military and Veterans Affairs said about 300 endangered Mitchell’s satyr butterflies were carefully released last week to a prairie fen habitat within the Fort Custer Training Center.
