KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — A man accused of setting a series of small fires in Kalamazoo last week told investigators, “it was me,” court records say.
In the record, the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety said five fires were set between the late hours of Aug. 28 and the early morning of Aug. 29.
Crews responded to:
- A brush fire near N Burdick Street around 10:30 p.m. A nearby construction sign and trash can were also found on fire. Damages totaled over $200.
- A porta potty and nearby bushes on fire close to Oxford Street around 10:40 p.m. The porta potty was valued at roughly $1,000.
- A memorial on fire along with fencing and weeds between Riverview Drive and E Patterson Street around 10:50 p.m. Damages totaled over $200.
- Two vehicle fires, a 2002 Cadillac Escalade and a Lincoln Continental, along with a nearby power pole and patches of grass on fire around 2 a.m. on Cimarron Drive. Both cars were valued between $1,000 and $20,000, a court document shows.
Descriptions from various scenes listed a man wearing a dark blue shirt and light-colored pants, sometimes also adding a white towel or shirt. That was backed up by surveillance video from one of the scenes, which showed a man wearing a blue jacket, black hooded sweatshirt, khaki pants and blue shoes, the document says…
