Strong to severe storms possible Friday and Saturday

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WAFF) – Good Friday morning. Today and Saturday are 48 First Alert Weather Days for the potential of strong to severe thunderstorms across the Tennessee Valley.

We start off the day under partly cloudy skies with warm and muggy morning temperatures in the low to middle 70s. A few spotty rain showers are possible through mid-morning, although most locations will stay dry. We have a tricky setup for the storms today as a large cluster of rain and storms are ongoing to the northwest. This cluster of storms will likely generate a boundary that will track south into the Tennessee Valley as early as noon. This boundary will interact with the hot and humid airmass in place generating clusters of strong to severe storms.

The primary concern with any storms later today will be isolated damaging straight-line wind gusts that can topple trees and cause potential power outages. Any more organized storms will also produce locally heavy rainfall, frequent lightning and small hail. The threat for severe storms will end later this evening as the boundary tracks off to the south. Skies remain partly cloudy overnight with areas of dense fog developing by daybreak Saturday…
