IOWA CITY, Iowa (KCRG) – Damarian Jones, one of the suspects charged in the Iowa City pedestrian mall shooting, appeared in court Thursday as his attorneys asked a judge to move his case to juvenile court.
Jones faces five counts of attempted murder, along with additional charges. He was 17 years old when the shooting occurred and has since turned 18. Authorities say Jones was involved in a fight with 40 other people when someone handed him a gun and he began shooting.
Jones was charged as an adult following the April shooting. His attorneys argued in court that because he was 17 at the time of the incident, he should be tried as a juvenile, which would carry fewer consequences, including a shorter potential sentence if convicted…
