Rolling Stones Keith Richards Teases New Music with Beatles Paul McCartney

The legendary Rolling Stones continue to defy the passage of time, proving that age is just a number. Their latest album, Foreign Tongues, has received widespread acclaim, showcasing the enduring talent of the band’s veteran members.

At the forefront of this ageless energy is guitarist Keith Richards, who recently shared insights in an interview with Zane Lowe on Apple Music. Among the highlights was a tantalizing hint at a potential new collaboration with fellow music icon Sir Paul McCartney.

Richards and McCartney have enjoyed a friendship spanning over 60 years-marked by mutual respect, friendly rivalry, and occasional playful banter. Both have an impressive catalog of chart-topping hits: Richards co-wrote timeless Stones classics like “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction,” “Angie,” and “Miss You,” while McCartney boasts an extensive list of number ones from his days with The Beatles and his solo career, including “Hey Jude,” “Let It Be,” and “Band on the Run.”

Despite their monumental individual successes, a joint chart-topping hit has yet to materialize. But that may be about to change.

Following McCartney’s contribution of fuzz bass on “Bite My Head Off” from the Stones’ 2023 album Hackney Diamonds, the two icons reunited for the new track “Covered in You” on Foreign Tongues-a recording session that reportedly took just ten minutes.

Richards hinted that this collaboration might be just the beginning, noting twice during his interview that “Paul really misses being in a band.” With McCartney’s creative spirit still thriving well into his eighties-evidenced by his historic role as the oldest headliner at the 2022 Glastonbury Festival-the prospect of more joint projects seems promising.

Reflecting on the past, Richards fondly remembered McCartney and John Lennon providing backing vocals for the Stones in the 1960s. He told Lowe, “It’s great to have somebody from your own era, from way back when. He’s a lovely player and I’d like to do more with him.”

As two of rock’s most enduring figures look toward the future, fans can eagerly anticipate what musical magic these legends might create next.
