Mount Vernon Road construction impacts Cedar Rapids businesses

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – The city of Cedar Rapids is closing a stretch of Mount Vernon Road this weekend as part of its “Paving for Progress” program, and at least one business owner along the corridor says years of construction have cost him customers.

The current phase of work runs from 20th Street east toward 26th Street and includes paving repairs, water main replacement, and sidewalk replacement. That portion of the project is slated to continue into next year.

Business owner cites lost traffic

Dee Patel owns businesses along Mount Vernon Road, and said construction has made it harder for customers to reach his storefronts.

“Bills and expenses are going up and up, all the businesses around here,” Patel said…
