Afternoon and evening storm chances through the weekend

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW)–A severe thunderstorm watch is issued across the area, with a level 2, slight risk for severe weather. The primary concerns are wind gusts reaching 60 mph, frequent lightning and heavy downpours. The rain-cooled air will bring a drop in temperatures for the rest of the evening. Tonight the chance for showers and storms remains until 9 p.m. A passing cold front overnight will send high temperatures dropping to near normal for Sunday.

Tomorrow morning will start in the mid and upper-70s, with highs warming into the lower-90s inland, and upper-80s at the coast. Actual air temperatures will be closer to typical, with feels like temperatures also dropping below the 100 degrees we’ve felt the past few days. Partly sunny skies with a chance for widespread showers and storms continue through Sunday evening. Some of these storms will be on the stronger side, bringing lightning and gusty winds, with heavy downpours. The Pee Dee and boarder belt are under a slight risk again, closer to the coast will be a level 1 risk for another night of potential strong storms. It will still be humid with dewpoints in the 70s.

The start of your next work week will bring us more hit or miss chances for showers and storms. Highs will range from the mid to upper-80s to lower-90s. We trend more dry by midweek, before the chance for rain returns Friday…
