High housing prices, low wages driving young people away from Asheville

Living off-grid in Madison County, Nina Sabatino thought she had a little slice of paradise, getting by with an outdoor shower, a compost toilet and paying just $100 a month in rent.

But when the property owner died two years ago, a nephew took over and told her she had 30 days to find somewhere else to live.
