Pair arrested in Asheville accused of running multi-county drug operation out of Airbnb

CHEROKEE COUNTY, N.C. (FOX Carolina) – The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office announced that a tip received on Friday regarding suspected drug activity at an Airbnb led to the arrest of two people in Asheville on Saturday.

Deputies said that they were already investigating Bobby Huel Pastell, 33, and Viviane Shae Cheeks, 29, for suspected multi-county drug trafficking activities. Before deputies arrived at the Airbnb in Marble, the suspects had fled the location. Upon arrival, investigators found approximately three ounces of suspected fentanyl that had been left behind, along with Pastell’s driver’s license.

Officials said that after determining the suspects had fled to Asheville, they obtained arrest warrants and worked with the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office and the Asheville Police Department to coordinate their arrest.

Cherokee County deputies said that, along with support from the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, they traveled to Asheville early Saturday and worked with the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office and Asheville Police Department to execute the warrants.

Pastell and Cheeks were both arrested and charged with the following:

  • Maintaining a vehicle, dwelling or place for the purpose of using, storing or selling controlled substances
  • Possession of fentanyl
  • Possession of methamphetamine
