‘Fishing For Change’ event teaches kids about water ecology, conservation in ABQ

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) — Folks at Tingley Beach learned a thing or two on Saturday about environmental science. The “STEM is Childplay” foundation hosted the first round of “Fishing for Change,” aiming to teach kids about conservation and water ecology, including how to test water quality, and identify different fish.

Participating anglers could keep up to four trout and two catfish, as well as the knowledge they reeled in along the way. “We wanted to make it a family affair, to encourage generational fishing, and learn about the water at Tingley Beach at the pond, and what’s in it, and what we’re fishing for,” said Michelle Massie.

Some kids also took home cash prizes for the fish they caught. “Fishing for Change” will return to Tingley Beach on July 18, July 25, and Aug. 1…
