Rittman community holds cookout to support families of shooting victims

CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) – Hundreds of people filled Downtown Rittman on Sunday for a community cookout and bake sale, raising money for the families of three people killed in a shooting one week earlier.

The event supported the Ries and McWilliams families. Rittman Police Sergeant Scott Ries was shot and killed July 5 while responding to a domestic violence call. In the same shooting, Christie and McKinley McWilliams died after police say Christie’s ex-boyfriend shot them inside their home.

Organizers, community turn out in force

Caitlin Rieger and Tricia Summerson McVicker organized the event. Money raised can be used however the families need, including funeral expenses or everyday living costs.
