Scattered to numerous downpours and storms Monday

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WAFF) – Good Monday morning. We start off the new week with overcast skies and some pockets of dense fog scattered across the Tennessee Valley.

Temperatures are very warm in the middle 70s with a muggy feel when you step out the door. We are already tracking some scattered rain showers moving across the area, umbrellas will be a good thing to have today. An upper level center of low pressure remains just to our north today. Given the very saturated airmass in place, scattered to numerous downpours and thunderstorms are expected off and on through the day. Thunderstorms should be more “general” in nature with frequent lightning and some isolated gusty winds. The bigger concern today will be locally heavy rainfall in some locations that can lead to potential flash flooding.

Rain showers and storms will begin to taper off later this evening leaving us mostly cloudy overnight. Tuesday morning lows start off in the lower 70s with some pockets of dense fog in locations that see rainfall today. Tuesday is another unsettled day with the upper low remaining to the north. More periods of downpours and storms are anticipated through the day…
