Knoxville Police technician shot, man charged with attempted murder

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — A Knoxville Police Department Crime Scene Technician was shot, and a man was taken into custody on an attempted murder charge Monday morning, police said.

Joey Rudd, 35, is charged with four counts of attempted first-degree murder and four counts of employing a firearm during the commission of a felony.

Around 11 p.m. on Sunday, KPD officers responded to a report that shots had been fired into a home on the 2300 block of Jones Street. The home was occupied but no injuries were reported.

Just after midnight, officers and staff with the forensics unit were processing the scene and looking for evidence when someone — later identified as Rudd — fired multiple shots at the officers and a technician from a nearby wood line, police said. The technician was hit and was taken to a hospital with injuries that KPD said were non-life-threatening…
