Mid-Michigan prepares for another heat wave

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — We had a wonderful weekend over Mid-Michigan with temperatures in the 80s and plenty of sunshine. We’ll hold onto the sunshine for most of this week, but some serious heat is on the way starting today.

Our high temperature in Lansing today is expected to reach 92 degrees. If that verifies, it’ll be the fourth time this month we reach above 90 degrees. We’ll likely see several more 90s this week as we have high pressure building to our west.

You likely notice with this coming heat wave that it will be a little less muggy, with dew points being in the mid-60s, compared to the one we had earlier this month, when dew points were in the mid-70s. This will help our heat index values be lower this time around, but still close to the 100-degree mark.

The good news is there may be some relief in sight. The latest look at the temperature outlook from the Climate Prediction Center shows that there is no signal for above-average temperatures eight to 14 days from now. This means our highs will likely be staying closer to average, in the low-80s.

In the meantime, make sure you’re staying hydrated this week, and if you have to be outside, give yourself plenty of breaks to prevent any heat-related illnesses. It’s also important to keep an eye on your pets, as they can be more vulnerable to the heat…
