Metro says dispute over Nashville Airport board still in court as federal hearing nears

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) — During Friday’s media roundtable, Mayor Freddie O’Connell said the city is continuing to challenge a new Tennessee law that changes the makeup of the Nashville Airport Authority Board.

The state law, which took effect July 1, transfers appointment authority for several board seats from Metro to state leaders. Metro has argued the change violates federal law and has filed lawsuits in both Tennessee and Washington, D.C.

Metro Law Director Wally Dietz said the city first asked the Federal Aviation Administration to recognize the existing airport board while the dispute played out in court. After the FAA did not respond, Metro sued the agency in federal court…
