AMARILLO, Texas (KVII) — The Wildcat Bluff Nature Center is adding fire breaks after nearby wildfires forced evacuations and raised concerns about the growing wildfire risk in the Texas Panhandle.
The nature center said more than 7,400 linear feet, or about 130 acres, are expected to be cleared in the northeast quadrant of the property through a partnership with the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service.
Wildcat Bluff is also clearing fire breaks around Wild West Wildlife Rehabilitation Center, which sits nearby. Both organizations were forced to evacuate staff and animals during the Stinky Fire in May. The fire burned within 1 mile of the property, according to Wildcat Bluff…
