SALUDA—On Saturday, July 11, Saluda welcomed visitors for its 63rd annual Coon Dog Day, a celebration imbued with the town’s rich mountain heritage. Despite the humidity and light rain, a large crowd gathered for the event, eager to pay tribute to the coonhounds that have become symbolic of the area’s hunting traditions.
The day’s activities began with the Saluda Elementary School 5K Fun Run at 8 a.m. on Main Street, raising money for the Polk County Marching Band. Logan Totten-Lancaster won the men’s division in 17:37, while Julia Farley captured the women’s title with a time of 20:09.
“I want to extend my thanks to all the volunteers who worked so hard to make the 5K Fun Run a success,” said Polk County Band Director Kimberly Benson. “We couldn’t have done it without them, and it’s wonderful to see everyone come together to support our Polk County Marching Band.”…
