‘Our cars were underwater’ Flash flooding leaves Knoxville residents with damaged vehicles

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — Several people are left with flooded cars after flash flooding in Knoxville.

6 News spoke with residents at Tyson Court on Jennings Avenue near Downtown Knoxville after the complex’s parking lot flooded. One man said that he had just returned from a road trip and was eating dinner when he looked out his window, and his car was underwater. Another, Caroline Thurman, described a similar experience.

“So, my husband and I were upstairs eating dinner, and we got a flash flood warning on our phone. We came downstairs. Neighbors were already running around the complex, knocking on doors to notify people that the parking lot had flooded again. My husband and I came downstairs to find that both of our cars were underwater,” said Thurman.

The first man said that the inside of his car is completely soaked with the water coming up to the back of his driver’s seat.

Thurman explained that this is the second time the lot has flooded, with it flooding the first time on June 8. However, the last time, the couple was able to move their cars since the flooding did not come up as fast as it did on Sunday…
