LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Attorneys for the estate of Matthew Hagan Sweets and his family filed a lawsuit July 13 against Boeing, UPS and several other defendants, alleging negligence and corporate failures led to the Nov. 4, 2025, crash of UPS Flight 2976 that killed 15 people and devastated part of south Louisville.
The wrongful death suit, filed in Jefferson Circuit Court by Alex R. White Lawyers PLLC, says UPS Flight 2976 crashed after the aircraft’s left engine and pylon separated from the wing during takeoff. The complaint alleges the failure caused the aircraft to fall into an industrial area near the airport, igniting a massive fire and killing people on the ground and on board.
According to the lawsuit, Sweets was at Grade A Auto Parts selling scrap materials he had collected from job sites to earn extra money for Christmas when the aircraft crashed nearby and engulfed him in flames and explosions…
