Bike takeovers in Kern County: What law enforcement is doing, what you can do

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Bicycle takeovers are a growing issue nationwide and here in Kern County. The unpleasant surprise of teens on tires can make driving even more dangerous than it already is.

“Excess of 50 to 100 plus. Sometimes juveniles, sometimes adults as well, riding recklessly on their bikes, taking over parking lots, taking over intersections. Just anything to disrupt the flow of traffic and gain attention,” said Senior Officer Adam Clayton with the Bakersfield Police Department.
