TOLEDO, Ohio — Hundreds of students, teachers, family members and friends gathered Monday evening at Gesu Catholic Church to remember Anson Crandall, an 18-year-old rising senior at St. Francis de Sales High School whose death has shaken the school community.
The prayer service came two days after Crandall was found dead in a pond behind the Toledo Correctional Institution on Cleveland Street. Toledo police said Crandall’s mother reported him missing Saturday night after he failed to return home from a fishing trip. Toledo Fire & Rescue crews recovered his body from the pond, and the Lucas County Coroner ruled his death a drowning. The investigation remains ongoing.
Inside Gesu Church, classmates reflected not only on Crandall’s death but on the life he lived…
