Addressing a critical need in South County, UMass Memorial opens new primary care facility in Charlton

Addressing what is a critical need in Southern Worcester County, UMass Memorial Health – Harrington Hospital recently opened a primary care facility in Charlton. The facility, located on Trolley Square road, offers twenty-one exam rooms, clinical workspace and new offices for four primary care doctors. According to UMass Memorial Health, the new Charlton location is expected to “expand access to primary care for ran additional 3,000 to 4,000 community members.”

Vice President of Medical Affairs and Chief Medical Officer of UMass Memorial Health – Harrington Dr. Frank Powers said the need for primary care doctors is great in the Harrington Hospital service area, “As you all know there is just such a national shortage of primary providers and we see that locally and that is evidenced by just the very fact that as soon as we signed up these folks, people knew about it like this. I could tell you that already on day one, there are 2,000 messages in the queue from people banging down the doors to get out. So it’s like getting tickets to a Taylor Swift concert.”

Ed Moore, President of UMass Memorial Health – Harrington said this facility will help the hospital’s mission, “With the addition of this group, we’re really focused on making sure we can meet the demand. And that’s our mission, like I say, to serve these communities in every way possible and keep the communities healthier.”…
