Photos reveal cars trapped in high water during Texas storms

Portions of South-Central Texas are under a Flood Watch on Tuesday, July 14, as storms continue to develop over San Antonio and the surrounding areas. Many Hill Country towns have already experienced devastating impacts from the torrential rain.

Kerrville storm impacts

In a post published at 6:53 a.m., the Kerrville Police Department (PD) shared photos of vehicles stuck in high water near city streetlights, apartment complexes, and local business centers. Barricades have been set up at the following locations to help keep residents safe: Coronado and Junction Highway; Gilmer at Fourth; Lytle at First and Second; Town Creek at Schreiner; Goat Creek at Junction Highway; and Hill Country Drive at Sidney Baker.

“We can’t stress this enough: do not drive around barricades, and do not drive into high water on the roadway even if no barricades are present,” Kerrville PD said. “Low-riding vehicles will flood out.”

Another image showed a tree that had fallen on a street (Memorial Boulevard) near a local cemetery. The tree is blocking westbound traffic, and authorities are waiting for the City Street Department to remove it.

High water in Uvalde and Sabinal after storms

The Uvalde County Office of Emergency Management shared on Facebook that it received a report of a foot of water on the roadway between Knippa and Sabinal. The department urged people to stay safe and avoid unnecessary trips.

Texas meteorologist Eric Graves said online that every street in Sabinal has fast-moving currents and that nearly 14 inches of rain has fallen just northeast of the city. Earlier this morning, CBS Austin meteorologist Avery Tomasco warned that this area, alongside Medina, Bandera, and Hondo, is at risk for catastrophic flooding…
