POLK COUNTY, Fla. – A bizarre sleeping arrangement in Polk County ended with a punch to the face and a trip to jail, according to details released by Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd during his July 14, 2026 morning briefing.
The incident unfolded after a local resident and his girlfriend decided to let the girlfriend’s 58-year-old ex-boyfriend, John Simpson, spend the night at their home. Because of limited space, the host couple allowed Simpson to sleep in the same bed with them.
According to Sheriff Judd, there was “no hanky panky going on” during the overnight stay. However, the living arrangement fell apart sometime during the night when the homeowner unintentionally rolled over into Simpson while they were asleep…
