MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs is issuing a warning to veterans about a new scam targeting their mailboxes.
The VA said there is a postcard circulating that promises extra monthly benefits, but it’s actually a scam designed to steal your personal information and money.
The postcard claims veterans or their spouses can qualify for up to $185 added to their check a month through a “Veteran Savings Program”. The postcard references real benefit programs, including CHAMPVA and TRICARE for Life, to appear legitimate.
If you call the number printed on the postcard, the person on the line may say they are from the VA and thank you for your service in hopes of gaining your trust…
