Horror map shows ‘life-threatening’ flood warnings in Texas

As heavy rain and thunderstorms continue to threaten large parts of Texas this week, Gov. Greg Abbott has activated state emergency response resources in anticipation of a higher risk of flash flooding.

Flood warnings were issued for parts of south-central Texas, including Bandera, Bexar, Blanco, Burnet, Comal, Dimmit, Edwards, Frio, Gillespie, Hays, Kendall, Kerr, Kinney, Llano, Maverick, Medina, Real, Travis, Uvalde, Val Verde, Williamson, and Zavala counties. The warnings are expected to remain in effect through Thursday.

“The State of Texas will deploy all necessary resources to help local officials respond to potential severe weather and flash flooding across the state,” Abbott said in a statement. “I urge all Texans to keep up with local forecasts, follow directions from state and local officials, and always remember: Turn Around, Don’t Drown. Texas will support our communities as these threats develop.”

The National Weather Service issued the warnings on Tuesday as multiple rounds of rain moved across South and Central Texas. Flash flood warnings are issued when dangerous flooding is likely or already occurring. “When we issue a flash flood warning, that means conditions are in place for flash flooding to occur very soon,” said Jason Runyen, the warning coordination meteorologist for the NWS Austin/San Antonio office…
