NEW MEXICO (KRQE) — Sixteen local breweries are competing in what New Mexico Brewer’s Guild says is their oldest, most popular event. And if you’re looking to join in on the excitement, there’s opportunities from Las Cruces, to Albuquerque, and to Santa Fe.
“So what we do is we take a bunch of New Mexico IPAs and pair them down to 16 finalists, and then those finalists move on to the public tasting rounds,” said Edmonston. “These rounds are double blind, meaning those who are pouring the beer and those who are tasting the beer do not know what beer is which. Then basically we let the taste decide the winner.”

It’s the New Mexico Brewers Guild’s “IPA Challenge.” Twenty-nine breweries submitted one of their most-beloved, locally-brewed IPAs. From there, the guild paired entries down to 16 total finalists. Now, it’s time for the public to decide who brings home the title. Three tasting events are being held over the next couple weeks.
“You can definitely expect to drink some IPAs. You’re going to get a flight of 16 IPAs, so you’re going to have samples of all 16 of the finalists,” said New Mexico Brewers Guild Executive Director Ebbie Edmonston. “I really like this event because there’s no brands, there’s no bias. If somebody is in love with, you know, Bow and Arrow Brewing, they’re not going to know which beer is from Bow and Arrow. It really lets the beer speak for itself, and that’s what I think is so cool.”…
