Mobile County EMA donates birthing simulator to train USA EMS students for field births

First responders in Mobile County will have a new tool to help them prepare for emergency childbirth calls in the field.

Mobile County Emergency Management has donated a maternal and neonatal birthing simulator to the University of South Alabama’s EMS program to give students hands-on experience delivering babies and making critical decisions under pressure.

The simulator is designed to help train future EMTs and paramedics for situations in which an expectant mother may not reach a hospital before labor begins, leaving first responders to deliver a baby safely. Educators say the training is especially important for students who will work in rural areas, where access to maternal health care can be limited…
