AMC Evanston 12 will temporarily close at the end of business hours Sunday, July 19 through at least the end of the year for a “comprehensive, multimillion-dollar renovation,” AMC Theatres announced Tuesday, giving the theater a significant facelift as it also shrinks due to the high-rise apartment building proposed at 900 Clark St.
The company said the downtown theater will receive new “luxury recliner seating,” updated auditoriums and restrooms, new interior finishes and common area enhancements. The theater is expected to reopen in early 2027 as AMC Evanston 7, because it will return with five fewer screens than its current 12.
“When this project is complete, moviegoers will enjoy a dramatically enhanced experience from the moment they walk through the front doors until the credits roll,” Dan Ellis, AMC’s chief operations and development officer, wrote in the announcement. “We are excited to bring luxury recliner seating and a completely refreshed theatre environment to our guests in Evanston.”…
