CATSKILL, N.Y. (NEWS10) — A man was arrested in Catskill after allegedly falsely representing himself as an NYPD detective on Wednesday. The Catskill Police Department originally responded to a report of a verbal dispute before making the arrest.

During their investigation, officers developed information indicating that one of the individuals involved has falsely represented himself as an NYPD detective. As a result of the investigation, they arrested 62-year-old Rome Johnson, of the Bronx. Officers also seized an NYPD detective shield, which is being held as evidence.
He was charged with criminal impersonation in the first degree. Johnson was processed and issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Catskill Court.

The Catskill Police Department is reminding the public that if you believe someone is falsely representing themselves as a law enforcement officer, or if you have any doubt about an individual’s identity as a police officer, to contact your local law enforcement agency immediately. Officers can assist in verifying an individual’s identity and investigate any suspicious activity.
