CONWAY, S.C. — Horry County leaders approved an ordinance Tuesday allowing the county to charge impact fees on new developments, though some warned the additional costs could make housing less affordable.
The Horry County Council unanimously passed the third and final reading of an ordinance allowing the county to collect impact fees on new homes and businesses constructed in the area. The new fee schedule goes into effect Monday, July 20.
Under the South Carolina Development Impact Fee Act, the state grants cities and counties the power to collect the one-time fees on new developments in order to offset the costs of providing infrastructure like roads, schools and parks to growing areas and the costs of providing additional police and fire services…
