Alabama’s annual back-to-school tax-free weekend will take place over the course of days in 2026. During this time, Alabamians will have the opportunity to purchase qualifying clothing, shoes, school supplies, books and computers without paying the state’s 4% sales tax. More than 300 cities and counties also waive their local sales taxes during the event, although participation varies by municipality.
