CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) – At Wednesday’s Cleveland City Council meeting, the council approved a deal with Brook Park over runway expansion at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport.
In a 12 to 3, vote, the council agreed to the deal that will allow the city of Cleveland to get full tax revenue from the I-X Center and a business park. From that deal, the city of Brook Park will get 34 acres of land in Brook Park previously owned by Cleveland, and a $23.45M cash buyout. That will be paid in $650,000 installments over the span of 33 years.

This agreement comes following a decades long battle over a failed airport expansion in 2001. In preparation of a Hopkins Airport runway expansion, both cities agreed to split tax revenue for a business park north of Hopkins and for the I-X Center. When that runway wasn’t built, legal issues ensued…
