CLEVELAND (WJW) — The Ohio Attorney General’s Office is monitoring how Cleveland is handling the redevelopment of vacant Cleveland Metropolitan School District buildings after concerns were raised about the process, though the office has not opened a formal investigation.
A spokesperson for the attorney general’s office told FOX 8 it is “monitoring the situation to ensure compliance with Ohio law,” but emphasized no investigation has been launched and no allegations of wrongdoing have been made against the city.

The issue comes as Cleveland and CMSD seek developers for 12 vacant school properties totaling more than 1.1 million square feet. The city issued a request for qualifications in May for proposals to redevelop the buildings into housing, community centers and other neighborhood uses.
