The leading cause of line-of-duty deaths for firefighters is not from fires, although in Worcester there has certainly been terrible tragedy in that regard, such as the Dec. 3, 1999, Worcester Cold Storage and Warehouse Co. fire, which took the lives of six firefighters.
And while cardiovascular events from stress can definitely be a killer, that is not the leading cause, either…
