Community leader: DC Police will add camera to park where fireworks shot in crowd

WASHINGTON (7News) — Weeks after fireworks were shot in the middle of a crowd during an outdoor movie night at Alethia Tanner Park in Northeast D.C., one advisory neighborhood commissioner (ANC) said the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) relayed to him that they will soon install a pole-mounted camera there.

Joe Bishop-Henchman represents part of the Eckington community, and said he learned about this new strategy during a meeting this week.

“We’ve been going back-and-forth with MPD on what they’re doing. They’ve beefed up presence on the Metropolitan Branch Trail, but people want to feel safe. One of the things they’re going to be doing, they told us yesterday is they’re going to be installing a mobile surveillance pole. It’s a camera-mounted pole,” Bishop-Henchman said…
