Residents in West Hollywood woke to blaring alarms, rushing water and cars crashing into one another after a major water main break sent powerful floodwaters racing through neighborhood streets early Thursday morning.
The rupture, reported around 3:55 a.m., flooded streets near Sunset Boulevard, Palm Avenue and Hancock Avenue, sending water into apartment garages, trapping vehicles and forcing some residents to evacuate while others stayed inside as emergency crews worked to shut off the flow.
“It is like a river flowing down here on Palm Avenue this morning,” KTLA’s Omar Lewis reported from the scene. He said the current was so strong that it nearly swept both him and his photographer off their feet as they walked to their live shot…
