The Bonham Exchange wants more time to install legally required fire sprinklers after Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones backtracked on her promise to help the iconic gay nightclub raise money for the safety equipment.
If the city doesn’t extend the Aug. 1 deadline, the Bonham Exchange will lose its certificate of occupancy — which all businesses are required to have — and be forced to shut its doors.
In 2018, the city ordered restaurants and clubs with occupancy limits of 300 people or more to install sprinkler systems. The Bonham Exchange and several other clubs had yet to comply when the city started cracking down earlier this year…
