COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — As multi-state lottery jackpots climb, players looking for an extra edge might want to check out the latest findings from a new study that examined the “luckiest months” to buy a Powerball ticket in every state.
BonusJet, a casino bonus website, analyzed every Powerball jackpot winner from 2003 to 2026 to identify which months produced the most winners in each of the 45 U.S. states where it is played. The data excludes states that do not sell Powerball tickets and states without any jackpot winners during the given period. It also omits non-states Washington, D.C.; Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Additionally, researchers ranked the states by the total number of jackpot winners during that period.
It turns out Pennsylvania, Ohio’s neighbor to the east, is the luckiest state overall, producing 20 Powerball jackpot winners since 2003. December has been the Keystone State’s most successful month, accounting for four of those wins.
