Tampa Bay’s live music weekend kicks off in Ybor City tonight, with the return of Cat Power.
Two decades after its release, with four records in between it, Cat Power’s 2006 LP The Greatest still reigns the hearts and minds of fans. Named Rolling Stone’s sixth best album of that year (and the 26th best of the 2000s), the 12-track outing is certainly the one that brought the songwriter born Chan Marshall the most new followers.
It’ll be interesting to hear how the unfiltered, always-evolving 54-year-old interprets tunes she recorded with members of Memphis’ legendary Hi Rhythm Section especially since so much of the pain in the world at that time largely hasn’t changed.
