BROOKLYN (PIX11) — A NYC man was sentenced after causing a fatal hit-and-run of a cop who was riding a motorcycle on a busy Brooklyn highway, District Attorney Eric Gonzalez announced Friday.
Carlos Almazar Toribio, 31, was sentenced to up to four years in prison after leaving the scene of a collision with a motorcycle driven by off-duty NYPD Officer Pena in August 2025, according to court documents.

“The defendant’s actions demonstrate a callous disregard for those around him. Despite knowing he caused a serious traffic incident, the defendant left the scene,” said Gonzalez. “While nothing can replace Officer Pena or fully heal the grief and loss of his family and friends, I hope this prison sentence provides some sense of closure.”
