Iowa farmer anticipates more interest in local produce amid cyclospora outbreak

NEW VIRGINIA, Iowa (KCCI/KCRG) – Iowa health experts say cyclospora is a familiar seasonal concern that comes along with the fresh fruits and veggies with summer. Farmers are saying one thing Iowans can do is see where their food is coming from, KCCI reports.

Melissa Bartlett owns a farm in New Virginia. She says buying local fruits and vegetables allows customers to directly ask details about the farming process.

“They will tell you what they put into your produce, if they spray something on it, if they didn’t spray something on it, when they put it in the ground, when it was harvested,” said Bartlett. “You need to know these facts before you eat them.”…
