UNMC residence hall opens as University of Nebraska system faces $36M budget cut

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – University of Nebraska Medical Center leaders celebrated the grand opening of a new residence hall Friday, even as the broader university system confronts a state-mandated budget cut totaling $36 million.

The residence hall was approved in 2024 and was completed as a self-financed project.

Budget cut follows governor’s memo

The opening comes against the backdrop of a memo from Gov. Pillen issued earlier this month directing state agencies to reduce spending, following months of lower-than-expected state revenue receipts.
