Berger Wildfire grows to 1,500 acres in western Palm Beach County

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (CBS12) — A wildfire burning in remote western Palm Beach County has grown to about 1,500 acres and was 30% contained as of Friday evening, according to a report from the National Weather Service in Miami citing park and forest service officials.

The Berger Wildfire is burning about 3 miles north-northwest of the Rotenberger Wildlife Management Area in the interior Everglades. The fire is located far from populated communities, but smoke may still be visible from surrounding areas, especially during the overnight and early morning hours when winds are lighter and smoke tends to settle closer to the ground.

From a weather perspective, South Florida remains in a pattern that can make wildfire behavior unpredictable. Recent rainfall has been highly uneven across the region, with some areas receiving several inches while others have remained much drier.
